Convicted of the murder of storekeeper Jim Ellen in Juneau. Hanged on March 1, 1948. Nelson and LaMoore were Black men whose convictions were later viewed by many historians as involving racial prejudice and weak evidence. Alaska abolished the death penalty in 1957.
