Convicted of the brutal axe murders of two women, Anethe and Karen Christensen, on Smuttynose Island (Isles of Shoals) in March 1873. A third woman survived and identified him. He was hanged at the Maine State Prison in Thomaston in 1875. He maintained his innocence until the end.
