Murder and robbery during the September 7, 1876 Northfield, Minnesota bank raid as a member of the James-Younger Gang. Pleaded guilty to avoid execution. Sentenced to life at Minnesota State Prison in Stillwater. Paroled July 10, 1901 with help from the prison warden. Later toured with Frank James in Wild West shows and was baptized in 1913.
Background
Thomas Coleman "Cole" Younger (1844–1916) was a Confederate guerrilla during the Civil War and later a member of the James-Younger Gang. After the failed 1876 Northfield, Minnesota bank raid he was sentenced to life in prison. Paroled July 10, 1901 after approximately 25 years. Died March 21, 1916 in his hometown of Lee's Summit, Missouri.
