Convicted of murder in 1935 and sentenced to 30 years. He served approximately 14 years and was released in 1949. In 1973 he was convicted in the 1963 Leo Foreman murder case and sentenced to 20โ€“40 years, but the conviction was overturned on appeal in 1975. He died of a heart attack in Chicago on August 12, 1975, while free and out on bond awaiting a possible retrial.
