Convicted of murder in Italy in 1917 (stabbed Emilio Parrillo on orders). Served two years and was released. After release he killed the key witness against him (Vincenzo Capasso) and fled to the United States. In the U.S. he rose to become one of the most powerful figures in the Chicago Outfit. He had multiple later convictions including a major 1943 extortion case (10 years, paroled after several years) and 1959 tax evasion (served 27 months of a 9-year sentence). He died of a heart attack on October 11, 1972 in Chicago while free.
